IMPORTANT NOTE: For Certification with the ANSI/NSF, filtration systems are tested using water with the highest legal contaminant levels.  The "Capacity" (how many gallons of water the filter will purify) of each filter is stated on this website according to these tests.  Your water will probably have a lower contaminant level than used in testing, making the filter last longer than stated, so choose the smallest filter that seems to fit your needs.

Question 1: ENTER ANSWERS IN COLUMN A

Do you want to reduce Fluoride?  Or keep fluoride in your water?
Many people believe fluoride reduces tooth decay.  Many others believe fluoride is a toxic chemical they do not want their family ingesting.

IN COLUMN A:
IF YOU CHOOSE TO KEEP FLUORIDE IN YOUR WATER, CHECK ALL THE FILTERS THAT SAY "KEEP".
IF YOU WANT TO REDUCE FLUORIDE, CHECK THE BOXES BESIDE THE TWO FILTER THAT SAY "REDUCE".

Question 2: ENTER ANSWERS IN COLUMN B

Does your municipal water system disinfect your water using A) Chlorine?  B) Chloramine (chlorine plus ammonia)?

If you don't know, call your municipal water department or search online for your Water Quality Report to find out before you purchase any filtration system.  Most water filters DO NOT reduce/remove Chloramine.  KDF does not reduce Chloramine.  Chloramine also uses up the filtration media approximately three times faster than Chlorine does - in any brand of filter.  Learn more about why you should definitely filter out Chloramines on our Whole House Filters page.

IN COLUMN B:
NEXT TO THE FILTERS YOU CHECKED IN COLUMN "A", CHECK EITHER ALL THE "A-CHLORINE" BOXES OR ALL THE "B-CHLORAMINE" BOXES, DEPENDING ON WHICH DISINFECTANT IS IN YOUR WATER.

Question 3: ENTER ANSWER IN COLUMN C

What is your annual water usage?

Average annual water usage is 18,000-25,000 gallons per person INCLUDING outside water usage such as washing cars and watering the lawn.  Your water usage may be more or less than average.
* Remember to EXCLUDE outside water usage in your calculation!  The Filtration System is usually installed only for household water use, though we do have customers who like filtered water for washing cars because it reduces spotting.  To eliminate outside water usage, we estimate based on about 18,000 gallons per person.
* Also remember to choose the smallest filter that seems to meet your needs. (See yellow box at top of page.)

IN COLUMN C:
BESIDE THE FILTERS YOU CHECKED IN COLUMN "B", CHECK THE FILTERS THAT COME CLOSEST TO YOUR ANNUAL WATER USE.

Your Best Choice should now have (3) boxes checked all the way across.  This is the filter that closest suits your family's needs at this time.  (Remember, all the filter heads fit all the filter cartridges.  So you can change your mind on your next replacement cartridge order or if your needs change!)

The 10” models are adequate for most homes and the 20” is ideal for very large households or commercial applications. Chlorine is universally used to disinfect water, by killing bacteria and other microorganisms.  Once it arrives in your home, chlorine can have a negative effect on your family’s personal appearance, comfort, and even long-term health.

Fifty percent of chlorine exposure occurs in the shower. Absorption and inhalation of chlorine drastically increases your exposure. Scientific studies have linked chlorinated water to potentially harmful health conditions. Chlorine vaporizes in hot shower water and when, inahled into the lungs then transferred into the blood stream.
